Danish Heart Basket

Students will have fun using 2 colors of thread to create a unique heart design based upon a traditional Scandinavian ornament. Karen will also teach how to make a traditional paper woven Scandinavian ornament basket and how to turn this flat 2-D design into a 3-D ornament. This design is a must-know if you are of Scandinavian descent.

Materials:
2 shuttles wound with 2 colors and bring the balls. Thread must be of the same weight and preferably from the same manufacturer. Karen prefers size 20.


Herringbone-Fun with Split Rings

There will be 3 different approaches to physically tatting Split Rings-how to tat the 2nd portion of hte split ring.

Students need to be familiar with split rings.

Students will learn how to tat rings "thrown off" a split ring;
how to manipulate the split ring technique to efficiently create a unique motif and then tat the motifs into either a bookmark or a cross;
how to use a needle for the second shuttle, how to "shuttle tat with a needle," and how to use the needle to create a simple join;
how to identify which shuttle to use to tat the various portions of the split ring;
and which order to tat a split ring to most efficiently and comfortably tat it.

Introduction to Continuous Tatting

The simple motif will be used to practice various strategies of Continuous Tatting. Students will learn how to apply these techniques to published patterns, learning the strengths and weaknesses of applying continuous tatting techniques to patterns.

Students need to know _________________

Students will learn split ring tatting, split chain technique, and lock stitch to create a mock/false picot.

Materials:
2 shuttles to learn Split Rings and to tat the Continuous Tatting Practice Motif. Shuttles need to be wound with the same size/weight thread in contrasting colors. May be wound in the continuous thread method.
1 shuttle wound with thread to learn the Split Chain Technique.
Karen recommends 10 to 20 weight to be able to see what you are doing as you learn, however, any size thread will work.


My Heart Belongs to Split Rings

In this class, the students will have fun with Split Rings, testing 3 methods for the 2nd portion of the split ring.

Students will learn 3 different approaches to physically tatting the Split Rings-how to tat the 2nd portion of the split ring;
2 ways to tat rings "thrown off" split rings;
how to identify which shuttle to use to tat the various portions of the split ring and to be able to create the "thrown off" ring elements;
which order to tat a split ring to most efficiently and comfortably tat it;
and if the tatter may choose to tat using Frontside/Backside Tatting Technique.

On Time: As a courtesy to your teacher and your classmates, please arrive ON TIME to your scheduled classes. If you finish your project early, or would like additional time to visit, shop, or see the lace display, you may leave any class early.
