Basketweave Heart
Students will use a block tatting method that will produce solid color blocks when using two colors of thread to make this motif all in one pass. The motif is reminiscent of woven paper heart ornaments.
Students need to know rings, chains, lock joins.
Technique taught is block tatting.
Materials:
Two shuttles (Aero style recommened)
small crochet hook if there’s not a hook on your shuttles
thread in two contrasting colors (size 30 and larger recommended)
three paper clips or safety pins. |

From Crewel to Tatting - Crewel Flower
Students will use a variety of techniques to create a flower adapted from a crewel embroidery design.
Students need be proficient with rings, chains, split rings and reading directions.
Techniques are split ring, use of picot gauge, block tatting, split chain (don’t worry, they’re very short) and folded ring.
Materials:
Two shuttles
small crochet hook if there’s not a hook on your shuttles
five colors of thread in size 20 or 30 cotton, or size 8 pearl cotton. |

Valentine Variations in Block Tatting
Students will make a small heart in block tatting and choose one of the variations (Valentine, Claddagh, or critters) to embellish it. The Valentine is easiest and the others a little more challenging.
Students need to know rings, chains, and lock joins.
Techniques are block tatting, beads including down-picot-bead for all the critters, and folded rings for the bunny and puppy. |
Materials:
2 shuttles
small crochet hook if there’s not a hook on your shuttles
thread (size 30 and larger recommended): red for heart, white for Valentine, white and gold for Claddagh, animal color for critters
Three beads for critters (eyes and nose). |
On Time: As a courtesy to your teacher and your classmates, please arrive ON TIME to your scheduled classes. If you finish your project early, or would like additional time to visit, shop, or see the lace display, you may leave any class early.
